PRACTICAL INFORMATION

Carcassonne is a small town in the south of France, famous across the world for its Medieval City (http://www.carcassonne.culture.fr/) and the Canal du Midi, two World Patrimony Sites classified by UNESCO. More information at :
http://www.carcassonne.org/ and http://www.carcassonneinfo.com/

The Medieval city is the only fortified town still inhabited in Europe.

Carcassonne is at the crossing of two major traffic routes used since Antiquity: from the Atlantic ocean to the Mediterranean sea and from the Massif Central to Spain.

How to get Carcassonne ?

Carcassonne has a small airport connecting daily two main cities in Europe : London and Brussels (http://www.carcassonne.cci.fr/pages/aeroport.htm). A bus then drives you from Carcassonne airport to the Medieval City. This is the most convenient way to reach DX’04 location.

Flights schedule can be found at http://www.carcassonne.cci.fr/pages/aero-ryanair2.htm.

The Bus schedule can be found following the link « Infos pratiques »à « Navette routière » on http://www.carcassonne.cci.fr/pages/aeroport.htm.

Another option is to fligh to Toulouse Blagnac airport (http://www.toulouse.aeroport.fr/US). Carcassonne is at 92kms driving distance. Then you may :

  • take the airport bus (Navettes centre ville ; follow the link « Transports ») to Toulouse train station ; take the train to Carcassonne (the train schedule can be found at http://www.voyages-sncf.com ) and use the bus from Carcassonne train station to the Medieval City.
  • wait for colleagues and rent a car (follow the link « Louer une voiture »). Take the A61 motorway and exit at « Carcassonne est ». It will take you about one hour driving.
