GCAP will demonstrate two experiments that are going to be based on IPv6, on the use of active networking support, and will be executed through the European WAN defined by the interconnection of the national research networks.

The first application demonstrating GCAP results will deal with a multimedia point to point server providing multimedia streams with guaranteed QoS. This experiment is going to be conducted between LAAS and GMD.
These two research centres are connected to their national high speed research network, respectively RENATER 2 and B-WIN. Then, it is possible to interconnect RENATER 2 and B-WIN with the European TEN 155 high speed network, using reserved ATM virtual paths, as shown in the figure below.
From the two national research networks and TEN 155, LAAS and GMD will benefit from an IPv4 connection service over ATM. The following figure shows the network components required to interconnect the public WAN and the end user on the private local network. It takes as an example the case of the LAAS, but the GMD topology is going to be similar.
The multicasting capabilities of the designed protocols will be demonstrated using a cooperative multicast videoconferencing application, managing several kinds of users having different functions.
This experiment is going to be conducted between all involved partners, LIP6, Thomson Detexis and LAAS in France, LANCASTER in UK, UC3M in Spain, and GMD in Germany.
As in the first experiment, the interconnection between all these centres is going to be provided by TEN 155 interconnecting all the national research networks, respectively RENATER 2, SuperJanet, REDIRIS, and B-WIN.
In the same way as for the first experiment, we give details of the components required for this second experiment taking, as an example the LAAS case.
