Basic Technological Research

The LAAS is part of the network of large technological facilities for Basic Technological Research (BTR).

The LAAS-CNRS technological facility offers to fields sensitive to environmental contaminations a controlled particle concentration, a regulated temperature and humidity, and a controll of light  (for certain processes sensitive to ultraviolet radiation) in a 1,500 m² class 10,000 and 100 clean room.

The main application areas which are covered
are

    - Energy management

    - Communications

    - Chemistry and biology;

The technical means allow to grow, deposit, organize materials for the layout of components for

    - Microelectronics

    - Optoelectronics

    - Micro and Nano Systems.

The TEAM staff (Equipment & Techniques Applied to the Microelectronics), which consists on 28 engineers, engineers assistant and technicians supports research activities.

The technical means are distributed in technological areas ; each area is under the responsibility of an engineer, assisted by a technician or an engineer assistant. Their mission is to support research projects through the development of processes, the maintenance and evolution of the machines.  In addition TEAM staff are involved in the projects, thus extending the scope of their competence and avoid compartmentalization.

These human and technological resources provide technological support for research activities within the LAAS, but also welcome external requests under the Basic Technological Research program.

Welcoming of projects within the BTR

These requests come from both academics and industrials (38 projects between May 2006 and May 2007)

The request should be formalised by the completion of a form that will be addressed to you.

Evaluation  of the request

Some iterations between the applicant and the LAAS-CNRS staff may be necessary to specify the technological aspects.

The analysis of the form leads to the evaluation of the feasibility of the project, and to prepare an assessment of costs and deadlines.

Fulfilment of technological processes

When the agreement of both parts is formalised by the signature of the form by the director of LAAS-CNRS and the person in charge of the applicant, work is carried out.

At the end of the operations, the real cost is established and sent to the applicant for regulation.

People welcoming

Depending on the nature of the work to carry out, people from outside the LAAS-CNRS may be welcomed. In this case a hosting agreement is established and training of the person is taken over by the TEAM staff.
