IFIP TC11 WG 11.8 - Information Security Education WORKSHOP
Workshop Scope
The demand for specialized skills and knowledge at advanced levels in a range of security areas
is growing. The aim of the workshop is to develop a first draft of an international doctorate
program allowing a specialization in IT Security. The draft will be based upon both submissions
from individuals or groups (from academic, industry, military and government organizations), and
discussions at the workshop. This draft will be further refined and eventually published as an
IFIP Report.
IFIP TC11 Working Group 11.8 - Information Security Education hereby invites you to contribute
to the above workshop by submitting a paper for presentation. The paper must be the design of
a current or proposed doctoral program with an emphasis on IT security, and address all the areas
listed below. Submissions will be double refereed and accepted submissions will be published in
the workshop proceedings.
The desired doctoral program will consist of both coursework and research, allowing students to
complete part of their studies at participating institutions offering modules in specialist IT
and Security areas. The doctoral program may be a professional doctorate or research doctorate.
Areas to be addressed in the submission:
1. Alternate Title/s of Doctoral Program
2. Type of Program, ie Professional or Research Doctorate
3. Indicate whether the program is currently being offered, or a proposed program (new
design)
4. Objectives of the program
5. Duration when undertaken as a full-time program
6. Entrance requirements
7. Program Structure including number and duration of modules
8. A brief description of Core and Elective modules and sequencing of modules
9. Recognition of Prior Learning, including prior research related degrees, relevant industry
experience, certification, etc.
10. Pre-requisite, co-requisite and anti-requisite modules (if any)
11. Required size and nature of research project
12. International standards to be considered
13. Potential funding sources for research projects
14. Potential industry partners for research projects
15. Potential sources for student scholarships
16. Possible areas of curriculum specialization your organization/institution may be able to
provide as a participating partner
17. Any other information relevant to the program, ie assessment recommendations,
teaching methods, language considerations, etc.
